Insulating the hull

Stinging is often used in nature as a defense mechanism. For example, consider sea urchins that remain free of fouling and are also not eaten. Finsulate protective film insulates the hull through the use of spines. The adhesion of algae, mussels and other organisms is thereby made virtually impossible. The hull is “isolated,” so to speak. If fouling occurs at all, it may attach only to the tips of the spines and can then be easily swept away in the water.
